Det verkar om om ACTA inte kommer att bli en lag om Neelie Kroes, EU-kommissionär för digital agenda i EU, får bestämma. ACTA granskas för närvarande av EG-domstolen och även dem förväntas säga nej.

Yes the Internet should be open; and yes it should be free. But that is not the same as being a lawless wild west. We have recently seen how many thousands of people are willing to protest against rules which they see as constraining the openness and innovation of the Internet. This is a strong new political voice. And as a force for openness, I welcome it, even if I do not always agree with everything it says on every subject. We are now likely to be in a world without SOPA and without ACTA.

Detta sänder en tydlig signal till företag som varje dag pushar för nya lagar som kan förstöra Internet. På kort tid har lagar som PIPA, SOPA, CISPA och nu ACTA sagts nej till.

Man skall dock komma ihåg att det inte bara är privata företag som vill ha sådana här lagar, utan även myndigheter. Ett exempel är FBI som nu vill kunna avlyssna sociala nätverk genom en speciell bakdörr.
